Clean Beauty: DIY Exfoliating Body Scrubs
Why spend $30 on a store-bought body scrub when you can easily whip up a fully customizable one at home? Head into your kitchen and mix together pantry staples like oil, salt, and sugar. The best part about it is that you can’t mess up. In general, add more oil if your scrub is too crumbly and more sugar or salt if it’s too oily.
DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub Recipes
Grab a bowl, add the ingredients below, and mix it all together. Hop in the shower and scrub it all over your body. Rinse clean and follow with a moisturizer. Use a body scrub every few days to cure your dry skin. You can store any extra in a sealed container for about 2 weeks.
1) Nourishing Coconut Oil & Brown Sugar Scrub
1/2 cup softened coconut oil
1/3 cup brown sugar
2) Smoothing Olive Oil & Sea Salt Scrub
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup sea salt
3) Invigorating Coffee Scrub
1 tbsp warmed coconut oil
1/2 cup coffee grounds + 2 tbsp of hot water (or use the leftover grounds from your coffee pot)
4) Refreshing Coconut Mojito Scrub
1/2 cup solid coconut oil
1 ½ cups white sugar
a few drops of peppermint essential oil
the zest of 1 lime
5) Calming Oats & Honey Yogurt Mask + Scrub
3 tbsp rolled oats
2 tbsp yogurt
1 tbsp honey
* instead of rinsing right away, you can leave this on for 15 minutes as a body mask
Customize Your Body Scrub Scent with Essential Oils
Put in a few drops of essential oils to craft your own scent. Lavender, spearmint, eucalyptus, peppermint, grapefruit, lemongrass, and lime are my favorites. Specifically, I combine the following essential oils to enhance the aroma of a simple oil & sugar exfoliating scrub:
Lavender, lemongrass, and spearmint
Eucalyptus and lavender
Grapefruit, lemongrass, and lime
Peppermint and lime
